World Water Day, 2022 was observed by the Geographical Forum, Department of Geography, Nanda Nath Saikia College on 23rd March, 2022 in collaboration with Public Health Department (PHED), Titabar Sub-Division, and Melamati Gaon Panchayat, at Melamati Gaon Panchayat Auditorium, Titabar. A day long Workshop cum Awareness Programme was organized in order to make awareness about the availability, use and quality of water among the people of Melamati Gaon Panchayat. Dr. Jonali Saikia Borkakoty, HoD, Department of Geography chaired as the President of the Workshop and Mrs. Sangeeta Saikia (Assistant Professor, Department of Geography) initiated the Workshop and Ms. Rima Devi (Assistant Professor, Department of Geography) presented the Vote of Thanks to all the participants. Dr. Bhupendra Nath Goswami was invited as the keynote speaker for the programme where he delivered lecture on the conservation of water citing examples from the ancient period. Mr. Pronob Bora, CEO, Jorhat Zila Parishad was invited as the inaugurator of the programme. Mr. Madhurjyo Saikia, Assistant Executive Engineer, PHED and Mr. Kaushik Bortamuly, Assistant Engineer, PHED was invited as guests and they had shared their views on various governmental schemes of water available for the people. On spot water sample test was done by two technicians from PHED .Mr. Manik Saikia and two other journalists were also invited for the programme and they also shared their views . Nearly 60 people from the Gaon Panchayat participated in the programme alongwith the students of B.A 5th Semester, Department of Geography , Nanda Nath Saikia College, actively participated and helped in making the event a great success.
A “Workshop Series” in the feeder schools of Nanda Nath Saikia College was organized by the Geographical Forum, Department of Geography, Nanda Nath Saikia College in Sankardev M.E School Bogiyai (Mandal Gaon), Titabar and Srimanta Sankar Vidyapeeth, Titabar on 11th and 12th March, 2022 respectively. The Workshop cum Extension Activity was organized in order to popularize geographical studies among the school students particularly from the 8th, 9th and 10th standards. The talk was delivered by Dr. Jonali Saikia Borkakoty , HoD, Department of Geography, Nanda Nath Saikia College, Titabar where she explained the basics of map with the use of tools like skeleton globe and maps. Mrs. Sangeeta Saikia (Assistant Professor, Department of Geography) initiated the Workshop and Ms. Rima Devi (Assistant Professor, Department of Geography) presented the Vote of Thanks to all the participants. Nearly 100 students and 15 teachers participated in the workshop and had greatly benefitted from the talk.
