An awareness programme on the theme “Anti-Tobacco and Anti-Drug Environment in Society” was organized in the college with the objective of promoting a healthy, addiction-free environment and sensitizing students to the harmful effects of tobacco and drug use. The session featured three resource persons from Jorhat: Dr. Bhaktimay Bhattcharyya, Additional Chief Medical & Health Officer, highlighted the serious health risks associated with tobacco and substance abuse and emphasized preventive healthcare and early awareness. Dipak Hazarika, Social Worker, District Tobacco Control Cell, discussed the social impact of tobacco addiction and the importance of community participation in prevention efforts. Prasil Kr. Bora, DEO, District Tobacco Control Cell, explained government initiatives, legal provisions, and ongoing district-level measures aimed at tobacco control and drug abuse prevention. The speakers encouraged students to adopt healthy lifestyles, resist peer pressure, and actively contribute to creating a tobacco- and drug-free society. The interactive session enabled participants to raise questions and gain practical awareness about prevention strategies. The programme concluded with a note of thanks, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to fostering a safe and healthy campus environment.
