The World Environment Day 2025 was celebrated in the form of an extension activity at Pragati ME School, Namchungi on 05.06.2025 by the Department of Zoology and Zoological Society N. N. Saikia College, Titabar in collaboration with Society for Green Conservation (NGO). Dr. Manashi Bortamuly (President, Zoological Society, N. N. Saikia College) and Mr. Abhijit Konwar, from the said NGO attended the programme.
This year emphasis was put on the concept of 5R, i.e., refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle and rethink. Dr. Dhrubajyoti Borgohain and Dr. Bhaskar Jyoti Saikia of N. N. Saikia College also participated in the programme and interacted with the students. Apart from educating the students on the right use and disuse of plastics, students were also educated on the use of eco brick wherein all plastic packets like toffees, maggie packets, sweets, and other rugs could be disposed off in one single plastic. A tree plantation drive was also undertaken by all the students.

Key topics discussed included: Transmission routes and preventive measures for HIVThe interrelation between drug abuse and HIV infectionOverview of STDs and their social and health implications.
Resouce persons highlighted on the concern over rising HIV cases in Titabor and adjoining areas linked to drug abuse, rising HIV cases in Titabor and adjoining areas linked to drug abuse, advocacy for safe practices, early health check-ups, and regular awareness drives, discussion on social, economic, and health consequences of substance abuse, and emphasis on the vital role of youth in promoting community health initiatives.
