The Department of Zoology, in association with the Zoological Society of NN Saikia College celebrated the International Day of Biodiversity on 22.05.2023. The meeting was conducted online, as students were writing their end semester exams during the day time. An Online Meet was organised at 8:30 PM. The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Manashi Bortamuly, Head of the Department. At the onset, the HoD addressed all the members present and wished them on the auspicious occassion of World Biodiversity Day. She then announced the opening of the meeting and requested Dr. Samim Dullah to briefly talk on the importance of the Biodiversity Day.
Dr. Samim Dullah stressed on the importance of sustainable development and said that biodiversity loss may result in the occurrence of several zoonotic diseases. She also emphasized on the importance of human awareness and said that is the role of the scientific community to educate the laymen.
After that, HOD requested Dr. Jafrin Farha Hussain to say a few words on the occassion. Dr. Hussain stressed on the equal importance of micro organisms as that given to the bigger class of animals.
HOD Dr Manashi Bortamuly then gave the chairperson talk and also stressed on the importance of the microbial world. She said that contributions of microbes to human health and environmental health are enormous. Therefore, pollution to the environment result in the loss of such important microbes.
After discussing about upcoming practical exams of 6th SEM Core and 2nd SEM Core, the meeting ended with vote of thanks offered by Dr. Jafrin Farha Hussain.

A get together cum farewell programme was organised for the the 6th Semester students of the Department of Zoology on 03.05.2023. The final year students were bid farewell by the 4th and 2nd Semester Students of the Department.
The programme started at about 11 am in Lab 1 room of the Department. The HOD Dr. Manashi Bortamuly formally welcomed all the students to the programme. About 85 people were present in the celebration. Former student Shri Neelkamal, who helped in wall painting of the Department, was also present on the day.
Unique creation, a handwritten magazine named 'Pakhi' was also inaugurated by the Vice Principal, Dr. Malakhsmi Dutta. The 9th issue of Pakhi (2022 - 23) has been created by the final Semester Students and this year's editors were Miss Gargi Bordoloi and Miss Parishmita Kakoty.
Vice Principal, Dr. Malakhsmi Dutta enlightened the students with good wishes and good thoughts and wished them best of luck for their future. Retired Professor Dr. Anjumoni Saikia also graced the programme and wishes good luck to all the students. Dr. Anjumoni Saikia also gifted her latest Book 'Pakhi e Ringiai' to the Department, for which she has been awarded the Karuna Dutta Smriti Award in 2023. All other faculty members also spoke on the occassion. The programme was enjoyed by everyone, especially songs, dance and fun games were conducted among the outgoing students.
Everyone had a hearty meal on the day. The Programme ended at 2 pm, with vote of thanks to the Chair.
